Great excitement and expectation filled the air in Windsor Park Congregation on Sunday, 05 November 2017, at the Divine Service for the Departed.
The adult choir, organist, orchestra and children’s choir brought much gladness to this hour, which added to a blessed and tranquil ambience. This was indeed a special service, as it was Bishop C Classen’s first divine service in his newly-appointed Bishop Area. The Bishop expressed that he felt at home and comfortable in Windsor Park, as he recognized a few of the members whom he had met when he visited about eleven years ago and was happy to see them.
As basis for this special divine service the Bishop used a Bible word taken out of Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” The Bishop shared the message that we should serve God with humbleness and with contrite hearts. Rector Baron Gaskin, who celebrated his birthday the day before, and Priest Abraham Segels, who celebrated his birthday on the day, were called to serve along.
After the divine service the Bishop greeted the members and spent a few moments with the ministers and confirmands, and took the opportunity to create memories with them. These blessed and unforgettable moments will linger on in the hearts of God's people for many days to come. A most blessed encounter indeed!
