On Sunday 3 December 2017, the New Apostolic Children's Choir and Orchestra presented a benefit concert for the St. Mark's Church.
The concert, entitled: We are the World, took place at the Silvertown auditorium. The programme commenced with 'Oh happy day' and summarised the day perfectly as the concert coincided with the first day of Advent.
The rest of the programme featured themes of peace and joy and this brought a real feel good factor to those in attendance. The sweet, angelic voices of the choir captivated the audience, drawing enthusiastic applause after each song. The hard work put in by all the participants was blessed with a beautiful concert.
After the conclusion of the concert, the District Apostle addressed the audience. He explained that all proceeds collected would be donated to the St. Mark's Church of District Six after the hall was damaged during a student protest in September 2017.
Reverend Austin Jackson of St. Mark’s District Six church, and the very Reverend Michael Weeder - the Dean of Cape Town and rector of St. Georges Cathedral - accompanied the District Apostle. Both were moved by the gesture, and expressed their sincere gratitude when the District Apostle handed over the proceeds of the concert – a meaningful donation of R80 000.
Reverend Jackson also extended an open invitation to the New Apostolic Church to attend the opening ceremony once the restoration works have been completed at the St. Mark's Church.
