A basic training course for Sunday School teachers from the Pretoria North East and South East
Districts was held in Silverton, Pretoria on Saturday 21 July 2018. This training course was held for all new SS teachers, as well as all SS teachers who had not yet had the opportunity to complete the Level 1 Basic Training. The session was attended by 15 teachers, of which 13 were “freshmen”.
Priest Thule Buthelezi opened the session in prayer and shared a special word with the teachers from the Book of Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
What wonderful food for thought! And what a motivation for the teachers to know that they are teaching children of God “How to live responsible and fulfilling lives”, thereby investing in the future of the Church and the spiritual future of the children.
Sister Theresa Engelbrecht led the group through the Sunday School Strategy, covering the Vision, Key Objectives and the Five Pillars of Sunday School. Sister Janet Els then took the group through the New Sunday School Structure, covering the Class Structure and what is new, as well as the new Syllabus Structure and the Congregation Categorisations. She also presented the Planning, Preparation and Presentation of Sunday School Lessons.
Sister Pearl Thaver presented the Characteristics of a Sunday School Teacher, outlining the importance of treating children with respect and building good relationships with them and their parents.
After a closing prayer by Priest Thule Buthelezi, an awesome group of teachers went home extremely motivated to give of their best!
