On Wednesday evening, 3 October 2018, the congregation of Silverton,
Pretoria received a surprise visit from District Apostle J Kriel. He was accompanied by the District Elder Q Hinrichsen, the District Rector who was booked to conduct the divine service, and the Rector, Priest W Carelsen.
As the District Apostle J Kriel walked up to the altar, the initial disbelief of members turned to radiant smiles and joy, whilst singing the opening hymn “God is our strength and Refuge!”
As basis for the divine service, the District Apostle used a Bible word from Judges 6, portions of verses 25 and 26 – “the Lord said to him, tear down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the wooden image that is beside it; and build an altar to the Lord your God on top of this rock.”
The congregation sang the closing hymn “Mighty the showers of blessings!” as the thunder rolled and lightning struck outside with a promise of rain!
Amidst great joy in the congregation, the District Apostle greeted the congregation and also provided the members with an opportunity to take a photo with him.
